WHO: 200 singers from grades 9-12 will be selected on the basis of their ability and experience and your recommendation, so a balanced choral sound can be achieved. Any student in grades 9-12 may apply, with the consent of their parent/guardian and recommendation of their director.
Choir veterans who are still in high school have already received a color-coded application at their home address. If for some reason they have not, they should write the Choir for another veteran application. (550 Cambridge Road, Coshocton, OH 43812)

WHAT:  Following five days of rigorous rehearsals, part rehearsals, marching instruction and solo auditions, the Youth Choir launches a performance schedule that includes 6-8 concerts each day of the Ohio State Fair, to the delight of approximately 60,000 fairgoers each day.

WHEN: July 24 through August 10, 2008.
Only those singers who are available the entire 18 days should apply.

WHERE: Choir members live on site at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, and are housed in the Rhodes Center complex. Students are under capable, experienced adult leadership night and day. Three balanced meals are provided at no charge each day in the Rhodes Center cafeteria.

MUSIC: A variety of music will be rehearsed and performed to develop the Choir’s 2008 theme, “Hand in Hand.” Music will include American classics, patriotic songs, spirituals, show tunes, folk songs, novelty arrangements, and several pieces composed or arranged especially for the Choir.

COSTS: Other than personal spending money, the only cost to choir members is the expense of the music packet (approximately $70), the cost of 2 or 3 choir uniforms (approximately $40 each), and a choir jacket ($22). Other costs are underwritten by the Ohio Exposition Commission.

OTHER: All applicants must have the approval and recommendation of his/her director, and must have their applications signed by their parent or guardian, regardless of the age of the student.

Please note that participation in the Youth Choir involves long hours, a great deal of standing, and marching or walking about 10 miles each day!

Completed applications must be postmarked no later than April 30, 2008. The evaluation/selection process cannot begin until all applications have been received. Applicants are evaluated individually and then in comparison to other applicants of the same voice part. With approximately 600 singers to consider, it is an involved process.

Once decisions have been finalized, all applicants will be notified of their status by mail, usually in early May.
